Swords | DC - The Dividing Cut

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://swordscomic.com/comic/DC/

As the sword of lore, this pleases me so.

First of all, love the new drawings of kargob and bograk. (Though I’m worried for Kargob as he looks more frightening and has six eyes)

Second: Why is Xyphos his “Replacment”? Shouldn’t Kargob go back to being a god now that the demon god is defeated. Then again Kargob technically DIED with Bograk when their Godswords were absorbed. So maybe Xyphos has to go and be the new god of darkness because Kargob Died? This is all very unsure. But it doesn’t look good for Kargob. (Sorry for such a long post)

I have the thought that xiphos (and every other mortal) sees kargob based on what they think he looks like, not what he actually looks like. We all see him as his true form (four eyes), while the barbarians would see him as 6 eyes, and the citizens of hiltshire would see him as 8 eyes (and so on and so forth). Also, it does not look good for kargob at all, and I worry bograk whose sword was also fully absorbed. We will have to wait and see.

But just before he had seen kargob in his actual form. So why would he need to see him in his kind of “fantasy” form?
Also if you check the profile for the darkness before time, it now says “ The primordial nothing before time began, also known as ‘Kargob’.” So this might be Kargob, just before he fought the demon swords.
(Sorry for such a long post again)

True. Maybe it has something to do with being in his void? I also wonder who kargob doesn’t want xiphos to trust. One of the other gods maybe? It’s also worth noting xiphos still has the demon of boundless hunger during all this.

Most probably Kargob doesn’t want Xyphos to trust Baltad. As Baltad has shown tendencies to attempt control of Kargob’s spot as top god.

And thank you for pointing out the demon of boundless hunger. As i have not yet inserted him into my equasions. Could he possibly be a support character of Xyphos? Because that would be worrying.

Baltad also seems to have made his own prophecy involving bread knight, so baltad is a possible answer. It’s also likely that they just havnt rehidden hunger yet

Yes well being that right after Kargob says “Don’t trust him” Xyphos sees Baltad, I think it’s pretty obvious.
Also I had not thought about the demon of boundless hunger yet. I think he might become a support character of xyphos of a kind. Offering unwanted and often bad advice that Xyphos ignores.

That sounds like something hunger would do as well.

*Xiphos
Minor spelling mistake, I win

Kargob does look pretty similar to the Demon god form of the Sword of Boundless hunger. I wonder if it’s a side effect of him being consumed.

Another fact that debunks your theory that mortals each see their gods the way they imagine them, in “ CXLIV - Heavens Not Enough” when Xiphos almost acended into the god ream, he saw Kargob :kargob: in his true form.

Here is the link to the comic in question so you can see for yourself:

Wait a second, Kargob is depicted the same way in Swords | CLXXXVII - Favouritest! So it might just be how the barbarians depict Kargob :kargob:!

So is Xiphos gonna turn into something else or can he just rule as the god of darkness as is? Will Xiphos gain any sort of power? Maybe like Kargob is still “a part” of him and he can channel powers that way

A theory that I mentioned earlier is that because Xiphos sees Kargob as normal in the episodes from Swords | CCCXLIX - In The Belly Of The Broadsword and forward, and the instance where he almost dies in Swords | CXLIV - Heavens Not Enough, this might be Xiphos’ imagination giving a fading echo of Kargob a different form

While normally, mortals see gods in there natural forms, like in CXLV “Stargazing”
