Back in my MUDding days, I found it more fun to muck about with the NPCs than to actually go questing/adventuring.
Of course, I needed to do a lot of adventuring to reach a level high enough to be able to survive mucking about with some of the NPCs.
Nothing funnier than giving the Demon Blade to the only NPC with a default saintly alignment, and watching it slowly slide down to evil by throwing level 1 bodyguard NPCs at it.
