I wonder if this is a reference to the CoD thing mentioned in this comic over at CAD And Nothing Was Lost - Ctrl+Alt+Del Comic Ctrl+Alt+Del
Could be.
Although, in a more general sense it could equally apply to lots of things (most notably snacks) where the trend has been to make the product smaller, but the price still increases.
